Attitudes of Those Headed to Heaven …….Series – Heaven Real or Myth

At this point in our look at heaven, we are going to look toward humans.  The human relationship and connection to heaven is no less a dynamic of the place.  The attitudes of such people are  to be varied and interesting.

But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God, 56and said, “Look! I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!” ` Acts 7:55, 56

Stephen was one of the first martyrs for faith in Jesus the Christ.  His attitude toward heaven is astounding to me, personally.  He totally trusted where he would be next in the face of a harsh and difficult death.  God granted to Stephen a glimpse into his future, which was only moments away.  Stephen knew what and who was awaiting him and that knowledge seem to squelch any fears he had about his impending death.

2For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed with our habitation which is from heaven, – 2 Cor. 5:2

8We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.  – 2 Cor. 5:8

Knowing that we too, like Stephan, have accepted Christ Jesus as our Lord and Savior; we should have a desire within us to be in heaven with God.  Not that we would want to die or that fear of death does not exist for us; simply an earnestness to be in our home.  Earth is not truly a Believers home heaven is their home.  That pulling toward home is almost always present for those awaiting transportation.

3For I am hard pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better. – Phil. 1:23

We hold so tightly to this world and this life yet, it pales in comparison to what awaits us in heaven.  What we will find there will be “far better” than anything, we have known here.  Hence, another reason we desire so to be in heaven instead of here on earth.  I will say once again, I do not think we can truly comprehend what our future there holds.  We however, will love it, with a love like we have had for nothing else.

32“Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. 33“Sell what you have and give alms; provide yourselves money bags which do not grow old, a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches nor moth destroys. 34“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. [Jesus speaking] –  Luke 12:32-34

All that we know of heaven and what awaits us there, should give us an attitude that shapes our priorities.  We should invest our treasures in life toward our true home, heaven.  Whether those treasures are time, talent, money, gifts given by God, etc. our priorities should shape how we use each.  If our heart is in line, our priorities, along with our attitude, should be heaven focused.
