Wow – To Live as Such

1But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine: 2that the older men be sober, reverent, temperate, sound in faith, in love, in patience; 3the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things4that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, 5to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed. 6Likewise exhort the young men to be sober-minded, 7in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility, 8sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you. 9Exhort bondservants to be obedient to their own masters, to be well pleasing in all things, not answering back, 10not pilfering, but showing all good fidelity, that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things.11For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, 12teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, 13looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, 14who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works. 15Speak these things, exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you.

Titus 2

Could you imagine what would happen today if our Spiritual Leaders stood up before their people as said, “Ha, Everybody, we are Christians and we are suppose to be living this way. I want you gentlemen, ladies, and young people to leave here today bearing in mind that you need to honor God by living as Titus 2 talks about.” I have my doubts about whether or not this leader would have much of a group the next week or not.

However, nonetheless, I believe Spiritual Leaders are hurting their flock and dishonoring their calling by not doing just that! They have relegated the authority to the people sitting in front of them. Yet, God intended by virtue of their calling, into the ministry, that they exhibit such authority. They would rather have the admirers their each week and those coffers full – instead of challenging their people to live as God intended.

So few people, who call themselves Christians, even hold these ideas, found here in Titus 2, as actions that they should actually try to fulfill. Yet, they absolutely are! We live in a world with a Church that has so watered down godliness and righteous behavior that people do not even know what it is any longer. Well, Titus 2 tells us a lot about what it should look like. This Spiritual Leader exhorts each one of you to go back and reread Titus 2, listed above. As you do take special note of each characteristic I have underlined and seek how you can make it a greater reality in your everyday life.
