Love, Loves

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. “By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”John 13:34,35 [Jesus speaking]

Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8

God has clearly defined in His Word what love is and how it should be manifest in our lives. We are called as the Scripture indicates above to love and in the second quote of Scripture we are shown how to love. If we are told how to love that indicates it is an action, not just a feeling.

To often today people do not wish to make the choice to love. They instead want to feel like loving before they chose to love. Yet, in God’s view of things love is something one does by purposeful choice, not something one looks to their feelings to determine for them.

More than not it is the choice to love which holds the family together. The decision to love keeps the marriage in tact during those rough patches. The determination to honor God by choosing to love retains the fellowship of Believers when they desire otherwise. The commitment to love Christ is the glue which holds the faith of a fragile Follower in stormy weather.

When did we get the idea that love was something that we turned over to fickle emotions and feeling to dictate? What has it cost us? When will we learn that a life worth living is a life that is guided by choice, not circumstances, feelings, or others?

          Will you love this week?
